About this production
The show
Sondheim and Lapine's fairy-tale ensemble. A baker and his wife, a witch, a wolf, a princess in a tower, a boy and a beanstalk. The wishes happen in the first act. The consequences happen in the second.
Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Book by James Lapine. Originally directed on Broadway by James Lapine. Orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. Presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
From the Director
A note for opening night.
Into the Woods is two plays in one room. The first half is the version your kindergarten teacher read aloud: wishes are granted, the bad witch loses her hat, the giant falls. The second half is what happens after the curtain comes down on that version. We chose this show because Paschal students are at the age where the second half starts to land. The cast is asking the show its real question every night: what do you do when the wish you fought for arrives, and isn't quite what you wanted?
